Guy was looking for a foolproof energy solution that could power his entire home in Nerang at night and during blackouts, while also supporting his two electric vehicles.

On top of that, he wanted to integrate his system with a home automation setup using a Raspberry Pi, creating a truly smart home.

Guy's Set-Up

✅ Solar Panels: Guy upgraded his existing 6.6kW solar panel system with an additional 7.48kW of AIKO solar panels, equipped with shade optimisation. This ensures maximum energy production, even on cloudy or overcast days.

✅ 15kW Inverter: The Sigenergy 15kW inverter enables Guy to fully utilise all 15kW of panel production at once, maximising energy output and ensuring his home runs efficiently.

✅ 32kW Battery Unit: With enough storage to power his entire home at night and during extended blackouts, the battery also has capacity to charge both of his EVs—critical for his lifestyle.

✅ DC Coupling: Some solar panels were DC-coupled directly to the battery and the DC fast charger, prioritising energy storage and EV charging over home usage.

✅ EV Chargers: Guy opted for two EV chargers:

A DC fast charger for rapid charging
An AC charger for slower, more economical charging, offering flexibility to charge both cars simultaneously or at varying speeds.
Unique to Sigenergy, these chargers also allow Guy to power his home or recharge his battery directly from his EVs.

Results

✅ Profit from the Wholesale Energy Market: In just three months, Guy earned $730.68 by selling excess energy back to the grid during peak demand periods, at rates between 50c and $1.00+ per kWh.

✅ Drastic Reduction in Grid Reliance: His grid consumption dropped from 70% before battery installation to just 12.75%.

✅ Optimised Energy Management: Using the wholesale market, Guy purchases energy at off-peak rates (5c–30c per kWh) to store in his battery. If unused, this energy is sold at a profit during peak periods.

✅ Smart Home Automation: Guy’s home automation system takes efficiency to the next level:

Appliances like the dishwasher and washing machine activate during the lowest energy price periods.
His lights flicker as a gentle reminder when his battery charge is running low.

Guy is now energy self-sufficient, reversing the dynamic with his energy provider by earning hundreds of dollars each month while powering his home and EVs.
